16,650 Days explores how places change and how our past selves evolve, focusing on my personal connection to this area. Inspired by the changing landscape, I chose the Biehl Nature Preserve as my ARTServancy residency site for the glacier-formed kames, the surrounding swamplands, and scenic Lake 12. Having lived near the preserve during my teenage years, I wanted to see how my experience with the land might differ decades later. Although I only lived near this location briefly, I was curious to see how my middle-aged self would interact with and respond to the land's transformation, as well as to my own personal growth. The poem in the book references my previous experience here and acts as a reflection point.
